Our Sunfish program is the transition from swimming to lifesaving lessons. The 2 level program prepares swimmers for fitness items in the Lifesaving Society Bronze Medal awards. Swimmers who have completed Sea Turtle 10 will maximize their speed and endurance during time swims, while maintaining stroke technique. Swimmers will also work on head up strokes, lifesaving kicks, surface dives, and stride entries.
Prerequisite: Sea Turtle 10 (or equivalent)
The goal of Sunfish 11 is to introduce swimmers to lifesaving fitness. Swimmers will work towards swimming 400 meters in 13 minutes or less. Head up front crawl and breaststroke is introduced, with a distance requirement of 25 meters. Lifesaving kicks are developed, swimmers will work on foot first surface dives, and are introduced to stride entries.
Prerequisite: Sunfish 11
Sunfish 12 challenges future lifesavers to swim 400 meters in 12 minutes or less, preparing swimmers for success in Bronze time swims. The distance for head up front crawl and breaststroke increases to 50 meters, and swimmers will put their lifesaving kicks to the test when practicing towing. Swimmers will work on head first surface dives and develop their stride entries.
